London Weather: Hottest Day of 2026 So Far

On March 6, 2026, London experienced its hottest day of the year, with temperatures soaring to 19.2 degrees Celsius in Northolt. This notable weather event comes as the city grapples with a high pollution alert due to Saharan dust covering the area, prompting health officials to issue warnings to residents.

The day began with cloudy skies and a humidity level of 75 percent. As the morning progressed, there was a possibility of light rain between 11 AM and 1 PM. However, the most significant weather change is expected later in the afternoon, with a 90 percent chance of precipitation forecasted at 4 PM. This rain is anticipated to continue into the evening, easing off by 11 PM.

Despite the warm temperatures, the weather conditions are complicated by high pollution levels. Mete Coban, a local health official, urged Londoners to take precautions during this high pollution period, advising them to avoid idling their engines and refrain from burning wood or garden waste, as these actions contribute to the elevated pollution levels.

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to drop significantly overnight, with a minimum of 8 degrees Celsius on March 7. The following day, March 8, will see a slight rebound in temperatures, peaking at 15 degrees Celsius around 3 PM, with a much lower chance of rain at less than five percent.

It is important to note that March and April mark the tree pollen season, which differs from the grass pollen season that typically occurs from May to July. This seasonal shift may impact individuals with allergies, as highlighted by Professor Gideon Lack, who noted the timing of pollen seasons in relation to weather patterns.

The current weather situation in London underscores the complexities of urban climate dynamics, where rising temperatures can coincide with adverse weather conditions such as rain and pollution. As residents navigate these changes, the importance of staying informed about local weather forecasts and health advisories remains paramount.

As the day progresses, Londoners are advised to remain vigilant regarding both the weather and air quality. With the combination of high temperatures and impending rain, the city is experiencing a unique blend of spring weather that is both welcomed and concerning.
