Major Disruptions on M6 Traffic
“The M6 is currently closed northbound between junction 28 (Charnock Richard) and junction 30 (Bamber Bridge) due to an ongoing police incident,” stated a police spokesperson.
The closure is part of a series of traffic disruptions affecting the M6 on March 7, 2026. In addition to the northbound closure, the M6 is also closed between junction 21 and 21a near Warrington due to another police incident.
According to reports, the incident near Warrington is expected to clear by 11am. Meanwhile, the northbound closure is anticipated to be resolved by 8.30am.
Traffic has also been significantly affected on the southbound carriageway, where all traffic is being temporarily held due to an accident between junctions 13 and 12. This collision was reported at 6.35am.
“All traffic is being temporarily held due to an accident on the M6 southbound between junctions 13 and 12,” noted the traffic monitoring system Inrix.
The police spokesperson emphasized the necessity of the closure, stating, “We would encourage motorists to find alternative travel routes if they can do so.”
Motorists are advised to stay updated on the situation as authorities work to reopen the affected carriageways as quickly as possible.
As the day progresses, further updates are expected regarding the resolution of these incidents and the reopening of the M6.
Travelers are urged to remain patient and consider alternative routes until the situation improves.
