Ryanair Updates Cabin Bag Policy and Pregnancy Travel Rules

On March 10, 2026
ryanair — GB news

Ryanair’s Recent Changes

In a move to enhance passenger convenience, Ryanair increased its cabin bag allowance in 2025, expanding the dimensions for personal bags. This adjustment aligns with new EU regulations aimed at improving travel experiences for airline customers.

The new maximum dimensions for personal bags are now set at 40cm x 30cm x 20cm, representing a 20% increase from previous limits. Passengers are permitted to carry a bag weighing up to 10kg, which must fit beneath the seat in front of them.

Pregnancy Travel Regulations

Alongside the changes to cabin baggage, Ryanair has also updated its policies regarding pregnant passengers. Expectant mothers are required to present a ‘fit to fly’ letter after reaching 28 weeks of pregnancy. This measure ensures the safety and well-being of both the mother and the unborn child during travel.

Furthermore, Ryanair stipulates that travel is not permitted beyond the end of the 36th week of pregnancy for single pregnancies. For those expecting twins or triplets, a ‘fit to fly’ letter is necessary between 28-32 weeks of pregnancy.

These regulations are similar to those enforced by Jet2, which also requires a doctor’s certificate for pregnant passengers. Jet2 specifies that the validity period for the doctor’s certificate is 7 days for travel and 16 days for the return date.

Current Challenges

As of March 9, 2026, Ryanair is also involved in a legal challenge against the European Commission’s approval of German state aid for Condor, a competitor in the airline industry. This situation highlights the ongoing competitive dynamics within the European aviation market.

Industry experts, such as Tom Schott, have commented on the changes, stating, “The new dimension is a game-changer, but only if you use it wisely.” He emphasizes the importance of packing efficiently, noting that “A well-packed bag is a compliant bag.”

As these developments unfold, passengers flying with Ryanair must stay informed about the updated policies to ensure a smooth travel experience. The adjustments to cabin bag allowances and pregnancy travel rules reflect the airline’s commitment to adapting to regulatory changes and enhancing customer service.
